A begining…
It seems like just a moment before we were facing the coming of the ‘new year’ but today its already 21st January 2014 and speeding we are towards the end of the first month.
Usually, every year the ‘new’ year is looked forward to with much excitement especially the celebrations of dance, music and fanfare. But surprisingly this time we had a very quiet, family oriented celebration with some fireworks thrown in.
Many things ran through my mind…why is it that we are moving away from the loud and moving towards the quiet inside? Is it because economically the outlook for Malaysia is gloomy? Is it perhaps we are simply growing older and that which used to excite us no longer does or is that we are simply moving towards simplicity and invoking our inner worlds?
I’ve never been one to call myself spiritual nor religious but I find myself curiously drawn… better yet…drawn with an understanding to this side of myself. Its almost like this year the puzzle pieces are fitting just a little better. Each piece is fascinating me and I have this joy and excitement to discover it, unravel it and then place it on my board called life.
I caught up with some of my friends recently and asked them about their new year and quite surprisingly almost everyone I knew had a new year different from any they ever had. The ushering in of the ‘new year’ was simple, with family… a little closer to their heart …a little whisper to themselves.
All this brought me back to the group exhibition that we had back in 2013, it was called ‘A New World’ and in this exhibition we explored this idea fully.
I do believe the new world is here… just look around us…starting with ourselves, moving us in ways we never thought possible…inspiring us to shift our balance…into the centre…into the moment…
